Jay Leno is set to perform a stand-up gig this weekend, just two weeks after suffering serious burns when a car he was working on caught fire.

The comic and presenter, 72, was injured in mid-November while working on his 115-year-old car steam car in his garage and needed skin grafts.

He suffered burns to his face, hands and chest and spent nine days in hospital before being released on Monday.

Jay has confirmed that he will still be performing his scheduled show at The Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach, California this weekend as planned.

Speaking to paparazzi in a video shared by the New York Post, Jay confirmed he would be back on the stage this weekend and reassured them that he was doing well after the ordeal.

He added: ‘I’m] hanging in there. Everything’s fine, everything’s good.’

Jay had undergone two skin graft procedures to remove damaged tissue and promote healing but was able to leave hospital after nine days.

Dr. Peter Grossman, who was treating the comic at Grossman Burn Center in Los Angeles, had revealed Jay was left with ‘significant’ and ‘deep’ second- and possibly third-degree burns, but believed he would make a ‘full recovery’.

He added in a press briefing: ‘Our hope is that when everything is all said and done, he will do well.

‘But burn injuries are progressive and dynamic and it’s hard to predict ultimately what the final outcome will be at this stage in the game.

‘He seems to be a gentleman who really just does not want to make a big deal of this. He wants to move forward and he wants to get back to work.

‘I had to tell him that he needs to step it back a little bit and just realise that some of [this] takes time.’

Jay’s life had been saved by a quick-thinking friend who sprang into action and jumped on him, managing to smother the flames after a fuel leak in the vintage car caught alight.

Speaking after the incident, Jay said via PA: ‘I got some serious burns from a gasoline fire. I am OK. Just need a week or two to get back on my feet.’
