Adele has share her joy with concertgoers after kicking off the first night of her long-awaited Las Vegas residency.

The singer, 34, had been due to perform Weekend with Adele at The Colosseum at the Caesars Palace hotel from January but was forced to postpone a day before the run began after her production was ‘not ready’ for the show to begin.

While fans were disappointed – especially those who had already travelled to Las Vegas for the shows – it seems to have been worth the wait as the end result was ‘perfect’, according to the superstar.

Adele became emotional on stage as she was greeted with a standing ovation as she kicked off the first night, telling fans: ‘Thank you so much for coming back to me. It looks just like I imagined it would, it’s just perfect, thank you.’

She joked: ‘I don’t get to go off stage for about 50 minutes so I’m going to have a s***ty face of streaked makeup for the whole first part of the show.

‘I’m so nervous and I’m so scared and I’m so happy. It might be a bit wobbly at times because my nerves are out of control…

’It’s a b***dy massive week for me this week. It’s the Walking Dead finale on Sunday! It’s opening night, it’s the Walking Dead, it’s the Grammys and it’s the World Cup, f**king hell – there’s a lot going on.’

Adele kicked off the set with Hello and Easy On Me, after which she received another standing ovation from the delighted crowd.

She performed songs from her latest album as well as older hits including her James Bond theme song Skyfall, with the visuals showing her in front of a burning background.

Adele even fired a T-shirt cannon into the audience at one point into the show, telling the lucky person who managed to catch it: ‘It’s a signed T-shirt, a handwritten note and fifty bucks, go and get a drink.’

She also thanked Caesars Palace for their support, adding: ‘I’d really like to thank Caesars because there has been a lot of s**t written about me since I cancelled my shows.

‘I tell you 90% of it is absolutely completely made up, there’s been rumours that I’m moving hotels and I’m moving theatres and all this and never once did they ask [me] any questions.

‘They have been amazing, so thank you so much for having me, Caesars. I’m so honoured to be here.’

Thousands of fans had travelled from around the world to be there on the first night and were seen queueing outside the venue before the show began.

Ahead of the show, Adele had taken to Instagram to share her nerves for the residency, telling her followers: ‘I’m feeling all sorts as I write this. I’m highly emotional, incredibly nervous but can’t sit still because I’m so excited.

‘I feel a million miles away from home, I can’t stop thinking about when I was little and saw Tom Jones in Mars Attacks and thought blimey how did he get from Wales to Las Vegas!?

Adele added: ‘I always get scared before shows, and I take it as a good sign because it means I care and means I just want to do a good job.

Maybe it’s because I didn’t start when I was supposed to. Maybe it’s because it’s opening night, maybe it’s because Hyde Park went so great, maybe its because I love the show I don’t know.

‘But it’s safe to say I’ve never been more nervous before a show in my career, but at the same time I wish today was tomorrow! I can’t wait to see you out there x.’
